January 17 – February 21, 2014, Haus der Architektur , Graz
One year after the opening of the tunnel control center, central repair shop and road maintenance depot in Hausmannstätten, Michael Goldgruber documented the on-site daily activities with his camera.
Excerpt of the interview conducted by curator Nathalie de Vries (MVRDV-architects, Rotterdam) with Dietger Wissounig:
Nathalie de Vries :
Can your project (Zentraltunnelwarte) be chracterized as “typically Styrian,” resp., “typically Austrian”?
Dietger Wissounig:
If one says that good execution in detail, a pragmatic approach to the space allocation, and a creative desire for order constitute Austrian construction, then I believe the typical Styrian or typical “Grazian” construction is constituted by the desire to break out of the self-imposed concept and out of working under the given restraints once again with a twinkle in one’s eye.
Understood in this way, it is typically Styrian.
